Citizens Property Insurance Corporation Depopulation: Take Out Companies Review

Citizens Property Insurance Corporation is a not-for-profit, tax-exempt government entity, created by the Florida legislature with the purpose to provide insurance protection to Florida property owners who are entitled to but are unable to find property insurance coverage in the private market. Citizens Property Insurance Corporation is the largest insurer of residential properties in the Sunshine State, and many home owners are insured with Citizens not because no private insurance company will insure them, but because Citizens was much less expensive than the private insurers willing to cover their property. If your agent insured your home with Citizens Property Insurance Corporation, it was either because a private insurance company would not cover your property or coverage was offered but at a premium over 15% higher than Citizens.

If your Florida property is insured with Citizens Property Insurance Corporation, you are probably aware of Citizens Depopulation Program, which is designed to transition Citizen’s policyholders to private insurance companies.

In 2015, these companies are assuming Citizens property insurance policies: American Colonial Insurance Company, Anchor Property & Casualty Insurance Company, Avatar Property & Casualty Insurance Company, Cypress Property & Casualty Insurance Company, First Community Insurance Company, Heritage Property & Casualty Insurance Company, Homeowners Choice Property & Casualty Insurance Company, Mount Beacon Insurance Company, Prepared Insurance Company, Security First Insurance Company, Southern Oak Insurance Company, and United Property & Casualty Insurance Company.

Should you stay with Citizens or allow your homeowners insurance to be transferred to the take-out company willing to assume your coverage? If you are facing this decision, or if you have allowed your Citizens policy to be assumed by a take-out company in the past, this review will help you evaluate the take-out company compared to Citizens, other take-out companies, and the insurance companies in the Florida home insurance market. This review will look at the choices you may have to find the best home insurance company for you at the best price, and avoid the worst insurance companies. This review will consider the options for insurance policyholders of personal lines accounts only, such as personally owned single family houses, condo unit owners, and mobile homes, and not commercial residential or non-residential properties owned by business entities or homeowners associations. Reviewing Florida Home Insurance Companies for Financial Strength, Stability, & Solvency

Florida home insurance companies becoming financially insolvent is not an uncommon problem. Sunshine State Insurance Company, recently one of the 25 leading insurance companies selling new policies insuring homes in Florida, stopped selling new policies, after receiving a consent order from the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation (FOIR), to raise its surplus or shed its business. The FOIR consent order issued in March, came after Sunshine State reported it discovered accounting errors relating to reinsurance contracts from 2008 to 2011 that required correction. Sunshine State Insurance Company advised the FOIR that correcting the errors would negatively affect its surplus, as would fourth quarter losses. Customers of Sunshine State Insurance Company need to be concerned about the company being able to pay claims, and choosing another company to insure their home, as reported in this Insurance Journal article.

As any Florida property owner knows, finding companies to insure their homes and choosing the best insurance company, can be a challenge. The homeowners, condo, renters, or mobile home insurance companies available to them are often newer, very small companies not rated by AM Best, the most well-known company rating insurance company financial strength & solvency. If you are concerned about having substantial damage to your home covered by your insurance, particularly from a catastrophe, like a hurricane, where your insurance company may have many claims to pay, you want to do the best you can to avoid companies unable to meet their financial obligations. This blog post will discuss the issues regarding home insurance company solvency for Florida property owners, and show you one rating company that may be of great help with assessing an insurance company’s financial strength. Florida Home Insurance Review: Best & Worst Complaint Records for the Largest Companies in the State.

This review analyzes & ranks the 25 largest home insurance companies in Florida, from best to worst by their home insurance complaint history, as determined by complaints filed against them by FL home insurance customers & claimants with the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation, in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 & 2013.

Common reasons for filing complaints are because of denials, delays, or inadequate payments of claims. Looking at your home insurance company’s complaint record, compared to competitors, over the most recent several years, can help you decide if your homeowners, condominium, or renters insurance company is more likely to provide fair claims handling and customer service when you need it, or if other property insurance companies may be a better choice for you.

This is an old review. so I recommend using my new Florida home insurance reviews for the companies selling the most home insurance policies in Florida here, and the largest insurers of Florida homes here, which include 2014 complaint data.

My website reviews the major auto & home insurance companies in the USA, but many of these large national companies do not sell home insurance in Florida. JD Power & AM Best do not rate many of the largest Florida home insurers, so reviewing a company’s complaint statistics is a major way to determine if an insurance company is likely to provide acceptable or poor service. Read this review, see which companies have the best & worst complaint records in Florida, and shop to find the company with the best choice of coverage, service, & price for you. Continue reading

New Jersey Home Insurance Reviews 2013: Complaint Ratings for all the Leading Companies

This NJ Home insurance company review gives you the 2012, 2011 & 2010 complaint ratings for the major companies insuring homes in the Garden State. It’s tough to find reliable insurance company reviews on the Web. Reading reviews of several people’s experience, or even two hundred people’s experience, are not enough to evaluate an insurance company with hundreds of thousands of customers, and tell you what your experience is likely to be with the company, if you insure with them. One person will love a company. Another person will hate the same company the other person loves. Unfortunately, no amount of research about a company’s customer service can guarantee you won’t have a problem. Even the most highly rated companies for customer satisfaction will have customers thinking they were treated unfairly, or the company did not properly settle a claim for them.

However, a smart insurance buyer reduces the chances of having a bad experience, by checking an insurance company’s JD Power ratings and complaint statistics for the company, before insuring with them. Although some states publish insurance company complaint statistics on their websites, few consumers check for their availability. New Jersey does not publish their home insurance complaint statistics, but national complaint data about the insurance companies insuring homes in NJ is available. This review will tell you if these NJ home insurance companies have an above-average, average, or below-average customer complaint record over the last three years, and their JD Power ratings, if they were included in a JD Power home insurance claims or customer satisfaction survey in the last three years (2013, 2012, & 2011).

Reading this review, and using it to select an home insurance company, can’t guarantee you will get great service or be happy with how your next claim is settled, but it gives you the information you need in one place, to help you make a smarter decision when choosing an home insurance company. How is your home insurance company performing? Check your company’s ratings in this review below. Continue reading

New Jersey Auto Insurance Reviews 2013: The Major Companies, Ranked from Best to Worst by their Complaint Statistics, & their Customer Satisfaction Ratings

As readers of my blog know, some auto insurance companies charge more than twice as much as other companies for the same coverage. No single car insurance company has the lowest rates for all drivers. The only way to find the company with the best auto insurance rates for you, is to shop with all the leading car insurance companies. However, the average customer is usually not aware of all the major auto insurance companies in their state.

This review will show you the 12 largest auto insurance companies in New Jersey, if they have an above-average, average, or below-average customer complaint record over the last two years (2011 & 2010), their JD Power claim & customer satisfaction ratings over the last three years (2013, 2012, & 2011), and whether each company’s growth or loss of NJ auto insurance market share might be an indication of low rates or high rates for a broad base of customers. In addition, I’ll show you some other auto insurance companies, outside the top 12, with consistent much better-than-average customer complaint records since 2008, as well as the auto insurance companies with consistently poor complaint histories. I’ll also point out a few other companies, outside the 12 largest auto insurance companies in NJ, with rapidly gaining market share, which can be a sign the companies offer low auto insurance rates.

Reading this blog post can help you shop & identify the NJ auto insurance companies most likely to save you a lot of money, or if you may be paying too much for your auto insurance, if your company is losing market share. As of the date of this article, the 2012 auto insurance complaint data has not been published by the State of New Jersey. Bookmark this page, because I will update it or write a new review, as new data becomes available in the future. If you are a New Jersey auto insurance consumer, there is no better source on the Web than this blog review to help you shop for a good auto insurance company, get the coverage you need at a competitive price, and really save $100s per year.
