21st Century Insurance Review: JD Power Ratings, AM Best Financial Strength Ratings, & Customer Complaints

This 21st Century review will analyze the change in the JD Power auto insurance study scores & ratings for 21st Century Insurance over the last several years. The annual JD Power insurance surveys are, in my opinion, the most objective and relevant indicators of insurance company customer & claims satisfaction, by gathering the opinions of thousands of auto insurance customers. However, the power circle ratings used by JD Power can be misleading, with some top four and five power circle rated companies not scoring much above the score of the average company.

This review will look at the JD Power ratings & numerical scores for 21st Century, in all the JD Power insurance studies where it was included in the last three years, to see what its current JD Power ratings really say about the quality of the claims & customer service for the company.

Another measure of quality for an automobile insurance company is the number of upheld complaints filed against it with a state’s insurance regulatory authority, adjusted for the company’s market share. This review will show you if 21st Century has a better than average, average, or below average complaint record for 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 & 2014. Additionally, I’ll review the AM Best Financial Strength Rating (FSR) for 21st Century insurance.

I’ll also look at the JD Power ratings for Progressive auto insurance pricing, and increases & decreases in market share (as measured by annual written premiums) for each Progressive subsidiary, as a possible indication of high or low car insurance rates. Dairyland / Viking / Peak Insurance Review: Auto Insurance Complaint Record & Ratings

Dairyland, Viking, and Peak, all owned by Sentry Insurance, are nonstandard auto insurance companies for drivers without insurance, tickets or accidents, license suspensions, recently licensed, and other factors making them ineligible for standard auto insurance with most companies. It’s easy to find a lot of bad reviews for Dairyland, Viking, or Peak insurance on the Internet, like you can find for all insurance companies. Unfortunately, complaints written by customers are hard to tell if the complaints are legitimate. This review has complaint ratings for the Dairyland, Viking, and Peak insurance companies compiled by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, from statistics gathered by each state’s insurance department. I think these statistics are more reliable and relevant for evaluating an insurance company’s customer service than personal accounts. Choosing an insurance agent: Experience is not expertise

In my last blog post, I wrote how you should choose an agent with enough experience to be competent. More than 2 years is enough, but 5 to 10 years experience is preferable. Anything more than 10 years is not relevant. But experience does not guarantee expertise.

Armed Forces Insurance Exchange Review: Complaint Statistics & Financial Strength Rating

Armed Forces Insurance Exchange (AFIE), founded in 1887, is an insurance company selling auto, home, renters, & condo insurance to active and retired military members, including National Guard & Reserve members, active & retired Department of Defense civilian employees, their spouses and children, and honorably discharged veterans. If you have had an Armed Forces Insurance Exchange insurance policy in the past, you, your spouse or ex-spouse, and your children can always be considered for a new policy.

AFIE also acts as an independent insurance agency, under Armed Forces Insurance Agency, to sell the products of other insurance companies, so if you don’t qualify for AFIE due to your driving record or other reasons, the company may be able to offer you coverage through another insurance company. For auto insurance, Armed Forces Insurance Exchange can quote you multiple companies. If you meet the AFIE eligibility requirements of having a relationship with the US military, you should contact them to see if they have the coverage you need at the best price. You really can save $100s on your insurance, but the only way to find the lower priced companies, is to shop with as many companies as you can. Often, you can find a good deal for insurance offered through special relationships, like an association with the military.

Nonstandard Auto Insurance: How to Get the Best Rates

How Much Do Speeding Tickets Increase Auto Insurance Rates?

Speeding tickets increase auto insurance rates. But by how much? I decided to write about moving violations and your auto insurance, after reading this NY Times Money blog post here. The NY Times blog mentions an Insure.com study stating one moving violation can lead to 18% higher rates on auto insurance. This strikes me as high, based on my many years experience working with auto insurance companies, and I think the problem might be the study treats all moving violations as equal. For example, a reckless driving or DUI violation is lumped in the same class as a minor speeding ticket. I assure you, insurance companies have MUCH higher rates for major violations, like reckless driving, than they do for a speeding ticket. Auto Insurance Policy Exclusion: Pizza, Newspaper, & Other Types of Delivery May Not Be Covered by Auto Insurance

Cars used in pizza or newspaper delivery, or transportation of any person(s) or property for a fee, are usually excluded (not covered) by personal auto insurance policies, while engaged in these activities. Insurance Zebra, Ratekick Reviews : Which Websites Provide Accurate Auto Insurance Quotes from Multiple Companies in the USA?

Its hardly news to point out the Internet has revolutionized business in the 21st century. Thanks to the Web, consumers have more information than ever to make smarter buying decisions. Websites like Travelocity, Expedia, Priceline and Kayak have changed the travel business, and put many travel agents out of business. But where is the Kayak of auto insurance, helping consumers find the best deals and lowest rates to insure their cars & trucks?

At least two websites are attempting to provide consumers with auto insurance quotes online from multiple companies, without the consumer having to disclose specific personal information, like names, social security numbers or vehicle identification numbers. I’ve looked at both Insurance Zebra and Ratekick, and although I’m impressed with each site’s design and ease of use, it’s not possible for them to give even approximately accurate auto insurance quotes to consumers anonymously through their websites.

The best way to get auto insurance quotes online is to go to each auto insurance company’s website (and include an online independent insurance agency operating in your state, if available) and provide your personal information as requested.
