Continuous Prior Auto Insurance Saves You Money

One of the factors used to get you lower car insurance rates and additional discounts is the length of your prior continuous auto insurance history. Many car insurance companies give you significantly lower rates when you have one year, three years, & five years or more of current continuous car insurance coverage, making these anniversaries a great time to shop your auto & home insurance for lower rates. However, sometimes car insurance buyers don’t get the proper credit for the length of their insurance history. Continue reading

Why you need to have auto insurance to get auto insurance?

If you call a car insurance company for an auto insurance price quote, one of the first questions they ask you is if you have auto insurance now. When I was selling auto insurance, I had a person once reply to this question, “If I had auto insurance, why would I be calling you?” Continue reading

Progressive Auto Insurance Fined for Using Credit?

Progressive insurance was recently fined $125,000 by the Massachusetts Division of Insurance, because Progressive erroneously misinformed some Massachusetts consumers they had used credit scoring to determine their auto insurance rate through Progressive’s website.

You may not live in Massachusetts, but the circumstances regarding the fine imposed upon Progressive is something all auto & home insurance consumers should consider, when evaluating an insurance company’s complaint record, such as the complaint ratings I list on my website. Not all complaints are created equal, and sometimes you need to look deeper to see if an insurance company’s complaint record really means you will receive poor service. Continue reading

Finding Home Insurance for Older Homes

If you have an older home, you may find some home insurance companies unwilling to insure you. If you buy a home built in 2000, will you have a hard time finding an insurance company willing to insure your home? Not likely, unless you are near the coast or in tornado alley, but the older your home is, the more likely you are to find some insurance companies unwilling to offer you home insurance. Car Insurance Loyalty Rewards Discounts

Do auto insurance companies reward customer loyalty with lower rates? All auto insurance companies, from Allstate insurance, through Progressive insurance, to  Zurich (Farmers) Insurance, want you as a loyal customer. I have blogged before about Long Term Policyholder discounts, where you can get a 5% or 10% discount for keeping the same auto insurance policy for 5 years or more. But because of insurance rate increases over the years, you often still pay more for your auto insurance than when you started.

A promise of discounts, and lower rates in the future, for being a loyal customer, but seeing your auto insurance bill go up each year, makes people feel ripped off. However, other car insurance companies will reward your loyalty to your former auto insurance company, by offering you a lower rate because of it. Continue reading

Property in Storage & Home Insurance

Do you keep any of your personal property away from your home? Do you have personal items or furnishings in a storage unit, or a friend or  family member’s home? Don’t assume this property is covered by homeowners, renters, condo, or mobile home insurance. These insurance policies have limitations & exclusions for property kept away from your home, so you need to contact your agent or insurance company to find out how you are covered.

Some insurance companies greatly limit your coverage for personal property away from your residence premises. You don’t want to find out the hard way, after a claim, you could have had the insurance coverage you need, had you chosen a better home insurance company. Continue reading
